    Rehabilitation Center

Whether you’re injured on the job, playing a sport or experiencing age related conditions—healing takes time. At Artesia General Hospital’s Rehabilitation Center, we understand the recovery process at every step.

The Rehabilitation Center offers a variety of inpatient and convenient outpatient services, led by experienced, licensed therapists. Our goal is to help our patients overcome physical challenges to get back to the activities that bring them joy.

    Our Rehabilitation Center’s services include:

Our multidisciplinary team provides a complete evaluation with the full support of your primary care provider, in order to develop a custom plan to support your personal goals and recovery needs. These treatment plans help manage symptoms, educate patients and their families—and ultimately return you to your active lifestyle. Our integrated approach to rehabilitation is designed to facilitate your best possible recovery.

    Physical Therapy

As part of our rehabilitation program, our innovative physical therapy programs support the rehabilitation goals of each patient through inpatient and outpatient services, and even customized home exercise programs.

You might seek physical therapy to restore your strength and balance; improve your range of motion; reduce pain after surgery or injury; treat underlying medical conditions; or even just take control of your health with preventive treatments. No matter what brings you to our team, we’re constantly advancing care for a healthier you.

Key benefits of our physical therapy program include:

    • Keep your game strong by designing customized exercise plans to reduce the risk of joint and muscle damage—no matter your skill level or sport of choice
    • Increase independence for older adults by improving balance to reduce the risk of falls
    • Recover from a stroke through techniques such as neuromuscular re-education to help coordinate nerves and muscles; proprioceptive training, which re-trains the nervous system to aid in self-awareness of body position; treadmill training; and “arm restriction,” which helps the body support affected limbs

    Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is all about empowering you to perform activities of daily life that have become difficult due to disease or injury—such as bathing and toileting, using the telephone, preparing meals and climbing stairs. We can help improve extremity function and fine motor control after surgical intervention, or even to prevent it.

As your partner in health, our experienced team of occupational therapists are committed to healing your body to help you fully enjoy life. Balancing your current abilities, your environment and the demands of your daily life, we partner with you to understand your most important activities—and customize a plan to increase your ease and independence at every step.

We are currently accepting referrals for patients of all ages, including children and teens—and our occupational therapy team is eager to partner with you.

Through a patient-centered, interdisciplinary approach, Artesia General Hospital’s outpatient occupational therapy services can support you in the following areas:

    • Developmental Delays
    • Fine Motor Skills
    • Hand and Upper Extremity Injuries
    • Mental Health Difficulties
    • Neurological Problems: Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, Parkinson’s Disease
    • Sensory Issues

    Speech Therapy

As the only clinic in Artesia that provides outpatient speech therapy, we have the expertise, convenient location and program options to offer all the support you or your child may need.

Our speech-language pathologists assess speech, language and cognitive communication, as well as oral, feeding and swallowing skills.

Our pediatric program treats speech disorders, impairments and articulation delays. During treatment, we’ll focus together on improving communication, articulation therapy and language intervention activities. We recognize that improved communication skills can positively impact the quality of a child’s life, and we are committed to supporting and empowering each child to reach their goals.

We also offer customized services for adults who have suffered a stroke or brain injury, as well as those experiencing impairments such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s or multiple sclerosis. Working with the primary care provider, we develop goals for you or your loved one.

Common treatments often include physical strengthening exercises, instructive or repetitive practice, or the use of audio-visual aids. For communication issues, our team uses strategies related to language and cognition to help patients communicate as effectively as possible. For swallowing disorders, we can help retrain muscles to improve swallowing and food clearing.

Artesia General Hospital’s speech therapy team is ready to evaluate and treat any communication problem, speech disorder or swallowing disorder that you, your child or loved one is experiencing.
