Radiology

Artesia General Hospital Radiology Imaging Services provides painless, noninvasive examinations in a variety of areas. The population growth in our community, one of the fastest in the State of New Mexico, has contributed to Artesia General adding a number of new technologies.

CT Scanner
The General Electric Light speed Computerized Tomography (CT) scanner is state-of-the-art technology. The Light speed allows for faster acquisition times, and shorter wait times.

Bone Densitometry
Artesia General Hospital now offers bone mineral density (BMD) testing to definitively diagnose osteoporosis and to detect low bone mass before osteoporosis develops.

AGH uses the most widely recognized test for measuring bone mineral density.  It is a quick, painless, noninvasive technology known as dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).

DEXA uses low levels of X-rays as a scanner passes over your body while you are lying on a cushioned table. DEXA can be used to determine BMD of the entire skeleton and at various sites that are prone to fracture.

The bone density scan takes 10 minutes and is completely painless.  Women can have a mammogram and a BMD test in one visit to AGH.

Mammography
A mammogram is the most efficient screening method to detect early breast cancer.  The test uses a special, low-dose x-ray machine to take pictures of both breasts.  Screening mammograms are done at Artesia General Hospital, and only take about 15 minutes from start to finish. When your doctor orders a mammogram, don’t put it off!  Call AGH to schedule this important screening.

MRI
Artesia General offers Mobile Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), one of the most advanced ways of seeing into the human body, making it the preferred diagnostic tool for brain, spinal cord and joint disorders.

Advanced Diagnostic Imaging
Artesia General also maintains other advanced diagnostic imaging technologies in the areas of general radiography (x-ray), fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, general ultrasound and vascular ultrasound.

To interpret the medical images, full-time radiologists are on staff daily. Artesia General also provides medical image interpretations through Eagle Eye Radiology for after hour CT interpretations. The technology acquires, displays, transfers and stores the medical images.
